MI vs GT Match Report: Riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s maiden IPL century, Mumbai Indians. on Friday (May 12), thrashed Gujarat Titans by 27 runs to register their 7th win of IPL 2023. After scoring 218/5, the five-time champions restricted the reigning champions to 191/8 to move to the third spot in the points table.

David Miller and Rahul Tewatia then steadied the ship and helped GT touch the 100-run mark in the 12th over. But before the duo could revive the chase, MI sent back both of them in quick succession. Madhwal broke the 45-run stand by dismissing Miller for 41. On the very next ball, Chawla sent back Tewatia to leave GT reeling at 100 for 7.

The writing was very much on the wall after Miller and Tewatia’s departure. Rashid Khan then entertained the crowd with a 21-ball fifty and helped the Titans avoid a big defeat. The Afghan star smashed an unbeaten 79 off just 32 balls with the help of 3 fours and 10 sixes. Thanks to his knock, GT recover from 100 for 7 and finish on 191 for 8.

Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma gave MI a good start by adding 61 runs in the powerplay before Rashid Khan dismissed both of them in the 7th over. Nehal Wadhera did not last long and departed for 15 to leave MI 3 down for 88 in the 9th over. Suryakumar and Vishnu Vinod then shared a 65-run stand to steady the ship.
Mohit Sharma broke the stand when he dismissed Vinod for 30 in the 16th over. And right after Vinod’s dismissal, Suryakumar shifted gears to complete his maiden IPL ton. At the end of the 16th over, he was on 47 off 31 balls and went on to score 56 runs alone in the last 4 overs off just 18 balls.
He reached his century in style by hitting Alzarri Joseph for a last-ball six. The star batsman remained unbeaten on 103 off 49 balls with the help of 11 fours and 6 sixes.
