GT vs SRH: “I Was Focusing On My Strengths And Trying To Keep It Tight” – Mohammed Shami After His Match-Winning Spell Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohammed Shami opened up about his performance in the 62nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He said that he tried to keep things tight and was bowling good areas. 

If it was Shubman Gill, who set the stage on fire with his flamboyant ton in the first innings, Mohammed Shami made sure that he didn’t let the youngster take the center stage alone. The kingpin of the Gujarat Titans’ bowling lineup took the SRH by storm with his new ball balling.

Mohammed Shami drew the first blood for his side after he removed Anmolpreet Singh for 5 runs in the first over. And then returned to remove Rahul Tripathi (1) and Aiden Markram (10) to leave SRH tottering on 29/4. He bowled impeccable lines and lengths and made the opposition batters dance to their tunes.

If this was not enough, he then returned during the fag end of the innings to remove well-set Heinrich Klaasen for 64 runs. Mohammed Shami returned with the figures of 4/20 and became the leading wicket-taker this season as well with 23 scalps.

Mohammed Shami’s resounding spell along with Mohit Sharma’s four-wicket haul restricted SRH to a total of 154 runs and win the game by 34 runs. GT also became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. 

Mohammed Shami said that he was focusing on his strengths and was trying to bowl in good areas. He also highlighted the importance of Mohit Sharma in the team. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said: 

“I was focusing on my strengths and trying to keep it tight. I always try to bowl in good areas. Just like the game against Delhi, the ball was moving off the deck. It’s very good to have a pacer like Mohit Sharma in the middle overs who uses the variations smartly.”

GT vs SRH: “Bowlers are very close to my heart,” says skipper Hardik Pandya 

Gujarat Titans skipper opened up about the win. He said that they ticked a lot of good boxes and bowlers are very close to his heart. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said: 

“We ticked a lot of good boxes, we made a lot of errors but we were always there in the game and tried to stay consistent. Bowlers are very close to my heart. Sometimes batters take a lot of credit, for me I will always be a bowler’s captain and ensure they get due credit they very much deserve.” 

Gujarat Titans will be next seen in action when they will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next game on Sunday (21st May).
