PBKS vs DC: “My Decision To Bowl Spin Off The Last Over Backfired,” Shikhar Dhawan After PBKS 15-Run Loss To DC

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan opened up about the disappointing loss his side suffered in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Delhi Capitals (DC). He admitted that his move to give last over to Harpreet Brar backfired and playing the first player as maiden also cost them.
Punjab Kings are now almost out of the IPL 2023 after their heartbreaking 15-run loss against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. It was a poor display from them with the bat and more particularly the ball, that saw him lose the game and register their 7th loss of the season.

While chasing PBKS had a worst possible start as Prabhsimran Singh first played a maiden over and then on the first ball of the second over, lost skipper Shikhar Dhawan for a golden duck. Atharva Taide (55) then steadied the innings but the real deal came from the bat of Liam Livingstone.

The English batter smashed 94 runs and almost took his side home but it’s fair to say that he didn’t get the desired support as Punjab Kings fell short of 15 runs. With them having a negative run rate, their chances to qualify are all but done.
Shikhar Dhawan admitted that they didn’t bowl well and he took some poor decisions in the field. He also lauded Livingstone for the brilliant knock. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:
“It was frustrating. We didn’t bowl well in the first six wickets, we should have taken some wickets. It’s a close game, but can’t help it. There was hope after that no ball, Livi played a great knock. I fell my decision to bowl spin off the last year backfired. Our bowlers didn’t pitch the ball up in the powerplay.”

Shikhar Dhawan further went on to say that have been leaking runs in the powerplay and also touted maiden overs as a big factor behind their loss. He added:
“We should bowl at the right areas and we couldn’t do that. Every powerplay, we have been giving 50-60 runs. We knew that it’d swing for 1-2 overs. We lost the first wicket in the 2nd over and the 1st over was also a maiden – we lost six balls there.”
Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be next seen in action when they will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next game on Friday (19th May).
