IND vs AFG: Jay Shah Confirms India vs Afghanistan ODI Series Will Be Held In January 2024

After the Apex Council meeting in Mumbai on Friday, July 7, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed the schedule for the upcoming ODI series between India National Cricket Team and Afghanistan National Cricket Team.

The Men In Blue were set to play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in June 2023. However, it was reportedly been postponed after a mutual agreement between ACB and BCCI. The three matches were set to be played between June 23 and June 30.

However, after the Apex Council meeting, Jay Shah informed the reporters that the three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan will be held in January 2024, reported TOI.

Also, Jay Shah has confirmed that the new media rights deal for home bilaterals for the next four years will be signed up by August-end.

“The BCCI’s new media rights deal (for bilateral matches in India) will be in place by August-end. It will start with the eight-match series against Australia (3 ODIs before the ODI World Cup & 5 T20Is after the WC)” Shah said as quoted by TOI.

Real Reason Behind Major India Names Being Dropped From Squad For Bangladesh Tour Revealed: Reports

Recently, the BCCI announced India’s squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team. Surprisingly, some major names were missing from India’s squads. Pacer Renuka Singh, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, all-rounder Shikha Pandey, all-rounder Radha Yadav and spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad were all left out of the squad.

Meanwhile, a TOI source has revealed that a few players were dropped because they failed to meet fitness criteria.

“A couple of players in the Indian women’s team were dropped for the Bangladesh tour as they failed to fulfill the fitness criteria. The Board is going to be strict on that front,” a source told TOI.

Jay Shah has also informed that the BCCI will announce the entire India women’s coaching staff ahead of the Asian Games 2023.

Notably, the BCCI has approved the participation of Team India in the Asian Games 2023. The BCCI will send its Men’s and Women’s teams to the tournament.

“We are going to participate in the Asian Games. The Apex Council has approved the participation of our men’s and women’s teams,” Shah said.

“The BCCI will send a men’s and women’s team for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September-October. Hopefully, we’ll win a gold medal in both categories,” said a senior official of the BCCI, as quoted by TOI.
