Watch: Axar Patel suffers serious head injury in Asia Cup 2025 match vs Oman

Axar Patel Injured

In a massive blow for the India National Cricket Team, the star spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel seems to have suffered an injury to his head.

Axar Patel sustained the injury during the 12th match of the Asia Cup 2025 against the Oman National Cricket Team at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday, September 19.

Axar Patel instantly leaves the field after getting injured

The Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel was removed as the T20I vice-captain of India ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 and was replaced by Shubman Gill in the role.

Axar has been a top performer for India in white-ball cricket, and he has made a significant impact both with the bat and the ball for the side.

Axar has received good backing from the Gautam Gambhir-led support staff, and he has repaid their faith by showcasing good performances on a consistent basis.

The 31-year-old looked impressive with the ball in India's two matches in the Asia Cup 2025 and returned with the figures of 1/13 and 2/18 against the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.

In those two matches, he didn't get to bat as India's top-order finished off the match, but the all-rounder received a promotion in the inconsequential match against Oman.

India altered their batting order against Oman to give game time to all the batters, and Axar Patel came out to bat at the No.5 spot. He played an explosive knock of 26 runs off 13 balls, with 3 fours and one six to put India on top.

Then, in the second innings, he got one over with the ball where he gave away just 4 runs. He was not able to bowl any more overs as he got injured in the 15th over.

On the first ball of the 15th over, Shivam Dube bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to Hammad Mirza, who tried to cut it but got it off the splice.

The ball went up in the air, and it was a dolly for Axar Patel. However, the Indian all-rounder made a mess of the simple catch and fumbled twice before dropping it. As he fell down, his head thudded onto the ground, and he instantly walked off the field.

The commentators on-air informed that the all-rounder will stay out of the action and will remain under the observation of the medical team.

It's a massive opportunity for us to share the dressing room with them - Jatinder Singh

Speaking at the toss, the Oman Captain Jatinder Singh said that playing against a big team like India is a great opportunity for them and will provide the side with a nice exposure needed to succeed further at the international level. He elaborated:

"I would've batted first as well. Well, it is a great experience for us to take things from here. As you know, our team lacks experience and exposure. It will be a great platform for them to come out here and play freely.

"100% sir. It's a massive opportunity for us to share the dressing room with them (India). We will get a look at their mindset as well.

"We have 2 changes from the previous game. Wasim Ali and Hassnain going out. Nadeem comes into the side and there is one more player. I can't remember."
